G&S Remodeling is a design-build firm serving Plano and the north Dallas suburbs. We specialize in high-end residential remodeling--kitchens, bathrooms, whole-home renovations, and custom additions.

We're looking for an Interior Designer to join our Sales & Design team. If you're a licensed designer who understands residential construction and wants to see your designs built with integrity, this is your opportunity.

What You'll Do

Lead design from concept through construction documentation
Create drawings, renderings, and client presentations
Support estimating, budgeting, and project scheduling
Conduct field observations and quality control reviews
Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams

What You Bring

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Architecture
NCIDQ certification or Texas state registration (preferred)
2+ years of interior design experience
Strong understanding of residential remodeling
Proficient in Revit, Chief Architect, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Office 365
Highly organized with strong attention to detail

Job Description: Interior Designer - Residential Remodeling (G & S Remodeling Services)

\n\n

Position summary

The Interior Designer – Residential Remodeling is responsible for delivering interior design solutions for residential renovation and remodeling projects for G & S Remodeling Services. The role translates client requirements into schematic designs, construction drawings, material and finish specifications, FF&E schedules, and installation documentation while coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors and project management to ensure designs are buildable, code-compliant, within budget and aligned with the client’s program and quality expectations.

Work includes site measuring and field verification, production of construction documents and specifications, procurement oversight, on-site coordination during construction and installation, and post-occupancy follow-up. The position balances aesthetic decisions with technical requirements, cost control and schedule delivery for single- and multi-family residential remodels.

Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)

Objective 1 — Design quality and client satisfaction: KR1. Achieve client sign-off on schematic design for ≥ 90% of assigned projects at first client review; KR2. Maintain post-completion client satisfaction score ≥ 4.2/5 (measured by standard client survey) within 3 months of completion.
Objective 2 — Project delivery and documentation completeness: KR1. Deliver complete construction documents to production handoff on schedule for ≥ 85% of projects; KR2. Reduce average number of design change requests after construction start to ≤ 1.0 per project.
Objective 3 — Cost control and procurement effectiveness: KR1. Keep average design-specified budget variance ≤ ±5% at project completion; KR2. Meet procurement lead-time targets for FF&E and long-lead items in ≥ 90% of cases.
Objective 4 — Regulatory compliance and risk mitigation: KR1. Achieve zero critical code non-conformances attributable to design on final inspections for ≥ 95% of projects; KR2. Respond to contractor RFIs related to design within 48 business hours for ≥ 90% of RFIs.
Objective 5 — Process improvement and knowledge sharing: KR1. Produce or update two standardized specification templates or detail assemblies per year to reduce repeat documentation time by ≥ 15%.

Internal customers (project managers, contractors, estimators): Reduce construction ambiguity and rework by producing clear, coordinated construction documents, timely RFI responses, and well-defined scope for procurement and installation.
Internal customers (procurement and site teams): Shorten procurement cycles and installation time by providing complete FF&E specifications, vendor coordination, and installation sequencing information.

Key skills, abilities and knowledge required

Design and technical documentation: Proficiency producing schematic plans, space plans, elevations, sections, and detailed construction documents for residential remodels.
Software and digital skills: Competence in AutoCAD and/or Revit for documentation; proficiency with specification and rendering tools (e.g., SketchUp, Enscape, Photoshop, or equivalent); familiarity with Microsoft Office and project management tools.
Building codes and accessibility: Working knowledge of relevant residential building codes, local permitting processes, life-safety requirements and accessibility standards as applicable to remodeling work.
Materials, finishes and FF&E: Deep understanding of material performance, finishes, fixtures and furniture selection appropriate to residential use and renovation conditions; ability to produce complete FF&E schedules and specifications.
Construction process and site coordination: Practical experience with field verification, site conditions, construction sequencing, installation constraints and contractor coordination.
Cost-awareness and procurement: Ability to estimate relative cost impacts of design choices, specify within budget constraints, and coordinate with purchasing to manage lead times and vendor performance.
Communication and stakeholder management: Clear verbal and written communication for client presentations, contractor coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration; ability to present design intent and negotiate trade-offs.
Project management and time management: Capability to manage multiple projects or design phases concurrently, meet milestone deadlines, and prioritize work to align with project schedules.
Quality control and attention to detail: Rigorous review practices to minimize errors in drawings and specifications and to reduce construction-phase clarifications and rework.
Professional background and credentials: Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture or related field preferred; portfolio of residential remodeling projects; 3+ years of relevant experience preferred; professional registration or certification is beneficial but not mandatory depending on jurisdiction.
Continuous learning and development: Openness to develop competence in sustainable design practices, lighting design, and evolving construction technologies and materials used in residential remodels.

Organizational context and reporting

The Interior Designer reports to the Design Manager (or Director of Operations where applicable), collaborates closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Site Supervisors and Procurement staff, and may provide guidance to design assistants or subcontract consultants. The role requires regular on-site presence during measurement, demolition, and installation phases and office time for documentation and coordination. Performance is reviewed against the OKRs and KPIs listed above and through periodic project-based quality and client-satisfaction reviews.
